Default Minn. man shoots at cops after SWAT team kicks down wrong door

    From blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/12/minn-man-shoots.html :
A Minneapolis police SWAT team kicked in the wrong door yesterday during an early morning raid, prompting the man of the house to grab his gun and open fire on the officers who entered the house.

"He took out his shotgun and he said if they are bad guys I'll shoot, I'll scare them away," Dao Khang, the brother of the homeowner, Vang Khang, tells the Star Tribune. "He fired first, he told me it was two shots."

    ...

Police haven't decided whether they'll try to charge Khang with a crime. KMSP-TV says the Khang family is consulting with a civil attorney.

What are you gonna do? Someone busts in your house, they are all dressed in black with guns drawn. You have got to defend your wife and kids in the next room.

I hope he sues the crap out of the city!

Police haven't decided whether they'll try to charge Khang with a crime.
What crime? There is no crime for shooting at a group of armed police who are trespassing on property their warrant gives them no authority to enter. How hard is it to verify the address before serving the warrant?!?! I mean, what will it take for the police realize the importance of doing their job the RIGHT way, every time? A LEO getting shot or killed by an innocent man, and that man wrongfully charged and/or prosecuted?

I can't tell for sure but I imagine the warrant was for that property but it was just bad information. They state in the article that it was trickled down. I don't know but that seems the most plausible.

If the warrant was for that address (though wrong) I still think he's in the right to open fire. I've said it many times before but if you come through my door without an invitation or an announced warrant, I will defend myself and encourage and support any other citizen that defends themselves under the same circumstances.

Thank God this guy isn't hurt.

Some suspects may have a history or are known to be prone to violence.

When a "no knock" warrant is utilized, entry is made without announcemnt....BUT when the entry team begins searching to secure suspects...the "police-search warrant" announcement is continuously made. I have no idea the true circumstances of this situation based on a news report, but I'd hazard an educated guess that the language barrier played a role.

    Just my 2cents.
