Re-Newing Concealed Carry Permit

My concealed carry permit expires next month. When I go to the Sheriffs office to re-new it do they run a criminal background check? If yes what data bases do they check, NICS, NCIC, CLEAN, State, Local, how deep do they check if at all?

When you go to renew your License to Carry Firearms (not just a concealed carry permit, the LTCF does more than just allow CC), the sheriffs dept will use the same PICS (Pennsylvania Instant Check System) check as is done when you buy a gun. The PICS accesses a number of different systems to do the background check. If the PICS check comes back clean, then the sheriffs dept will do whatever else they need to do (check with your references, etc.) and if everything is ok, then the LTCF will be issued.
