    Question Concealed Carry Question

I would like to know if there would be a problem getting a CC with a "General under honorable conditions" discharge from the the Army. It was for a flunking a piss test. I was young, and it was over 20 years ago.In Northampton County they ask for a copy of my DD214. I have the short copy only, so I was hoping that would be OK. I would just like some feedback. Thank You.

From my understanding of the law you are fine.
The "General, under honorable conditions" is not a "dishonorable" or "bad conduct" discharge which are the only two that seem to be a problem.

Folks that can't make it through boot are given "general, UHC" discharges also. It is indicative of no harm on your part. Incompatibility, yes. But again clearly not "dishonorable".

I'm retired Navy and have a LTCF but have never been asked for my DD214 when applying. I didn't know they could ask for it.

Strange...the DD214 form is a requirement on the Northampton county form....weird how each county makes up it's own rules for a state License.

My county...Venango...Requires a letter stating the reason(s) you wish to have a LTCF, whcih they also mistakenly call a Concealment permit.

I do not know why Northampton wants the DD214. I just want to be honest, and not do anything wrong. I will apply for the concealed carry. Thank You.

well as long as it's not dishonorable and you have nothing else that disqualifies, they cannot deny you the permit. PA is a shall-issue state.

They have no lawful authority to ask for your DD214.

I may be mistaken but I thought that the application form, requirements and process were spelled out by the state and NOT left up to the discretion of the counties. Am I misinformed?

You aren't misinformed. The state defined the required info, also allowed the state police some discretion on the form. The counties have no authority to add or detract any requirements.

Yeah, that's correct as far as I know.

They will undoubtedly claim it's part of the "background check" but I to too do not see the authority in "requiring" the DD214
