MA Moving Towards Requiring Mandatory GPS Trackers In Firearms

How this is slipping below the national radar is beyond me, but, in late January, the Massachusetts legislature once again looked to put our state in the forefront of national policy. This time we’re not talking about RomneyCare being the forerunner and blueprint for ObamaCare, but something more sinister and foreboding: tracking your guns with a mandatory GPS unit.
On January 24th, the Massachusetts State Senate Referred S01224 to Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. S01224 is a petition by State Senator Anthony Petruccelli to “create a GPS Locators in Firearms Study Commission”.
It reads,
SECTION 1. A special commission after this referred to as the Global Positioning System Locators in Firearms Study Commission, is hereby established for the purpose of making an investigation and study relative to the feasibility of placing Global Positioning System (“GPS”) locators in firearms.
The Global Positioning System Locators in Firearms Study Commission shall consist of 7 members; the House of Representatives Chair on Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Senate Chair on Public Safety and Homeland Security, one member of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, appointed by the Secretary of the Executive Office and Public Safety and Security, one designee from the Gun Owners’ Action League (“GOAL”), one Chief of Police from a city or town, appointed by the Governor, one designee from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office, appointed by the Mayor of Boston, one designee appointed by the Boston City Council.
The commission shall report to the general court the results of its investigation and study, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry such recommendations into effect by filing the same with the clerk of the senate before the bill filing deadline for the 2013-2014 general court session.
The operative word in this study commission’s charter is “feasibility“. The only thing this commission is going to be “studying” is how to side step the 2nd amendment (something in which MA law makers have become very skilled) and impose a truly draconian law upon the citizens of Massachusetts. This is further evidenced by the last line in the bill”
The commission shall report to the general court the results of its investigation and study, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry such recommendations into effect…
So it seems, you have every right to bear arms as long as every power-thirsty bureaucrat knows exactly where you are at any given time! As we mentioned this commission is the brain child of state Senator Anthony Petruccelli of East Boston. If you’re actually a fan of civil liberties and the whole “2nd Amendment” thing (and even the “4th Amendment” in this hellish scenario), I can’t encourage you enough to contact Senator Petruccelli.Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty

Re: MA Moving Towards Requiring Mandatory GPS Trackers In Firearms
To their credit, they are pretty good at wasting taxpayer dollars.
Hypothetical Scenario: GPS trackers on all guns.
Fact #1: EM waves do not propogate through conductive materials, e.g. gun safes and aluminum foil.
Fact #2: For GPS position fixes, the antenna must have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
Fact #3: To enable tracking, either the position must be logged in the unit continuously, or it must rebroadcast to a base-station located somewhere in the Motherland.
Fact #4: This all requires the guns be continuously plugged in, or run on batteries.
Fact #5: Batteries can run out of power.
Fact #6: Massachusetts politicians are morons.
Ok, now that we have the ground rules laid out, let's say that someone wanted to commit a crime and they needed a gun. We'll have to ignore Facts #4 and #5 because they are inconvenient, however, this won't be the first time politicians ignore facts when making laws.
Moving on, let's say the only guns the guy owned had GPS trackers. All he would have to do to remain untracked is wrap some commonly found Reynold's Wrap when it leaves the safe. The foil would block not only the transmitted GPS signals from the satellite and prevent a position fix, but it would also block transmission should the second part of Fact #3 be true. He would have the alibi that the guns were in his safe and nowhere near the crime scene.
The only logical outcome I can imagine here is to ban aluminum foil, which would work out well considering Fact #6.Last edited by bricktop; March 10th, 2011 at 12:31 PM.

WOW, Lexington and Concord must be relocated to another state, otherwise all that rolling in the graves will cause serious global impact.

Geezus!, seriously, only application i could see any actual use for something of this abortion would be on LEO and Military issued weapons during hostile situations. were a downed person would need rescue in remote or unknown locations, providing pinpoint locations for faster extractions. wait,... that wont work either if they in a deep terrorist cave.
Never mind i see no useful application ther then the cops knowing what you have and where it is at after purchase.
