Recommend a .40 S&W carry/concealed pistol?
Hello all! I wanted to ask you guys (and gals!) what kind of carry/concealed pistol you would recommend based on the following criteria:
1) Pistol must be semi-automatic
2) Caliber must be .40 S&W
3) All metal frame (no polymer/plastic!)
4) I prefer DA/SA models
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Recommend a .40 S&W carry/concealed pistol?
Just curious ... why say No to combat tupperware? In a CC situation weight is an important factor and polymer will save significant weight with no loss of performance, although you will need to train to handle the difference in recoil. But that's easier than missing a draw because you're pulling your pants up.
That said, CZ used to make a compact all-metal (alloy) in .40S&W, DA/SA, the Model 75. Widely used in Yurope. Discontinued but maybe some used units are around.

Do you mind me asking you why you are opposed to a polymer? I am pretty sure Para makes a nice compact 1911 in .40.

Re: Recommend a .40 S&W carry/concealed pistol?
While I would have no problems shooting or owning a polymer based pistol, for me, it would come down to confidence in the actual pistol itself. Please understand though, I have read countless reviews, reports, and articles which laud the reliability and durability of polymer-based pistols.
However, there is still this one-tenth of one percent doubt in my mind using one to protect my own or someone else's life if it came down to me using it versus an all metal frame pistol. It may be somewhat silly for me to think this, but if I am not confident in the gear I carry, then what good is carrying one if I am still doubting it's capability?
Also, it seems that many polymer-based pistols are of the striker type, with no hammer for DA (Glocks and the XD's are a good example of this).

CZ and S&W !
Ruger does also but it's a big gun that holds only 10 rounds. The CZ is probably your best bet. The 75 Compact or the 2075 Raamwill suit you fine.
I used to think the same thing, I thought a pistol that was half plastic was a joke. Then I fired a Glock 19 and didn't care anymore.
Read up on Glock and the tests they run their guns through before they decided to market them. They are proven in ice, snow,
mud, sand, rain. They had a truck drive over one with the rear tires, beat the frame with a hammer, and it didn't break.
They dipped the gun in ice water, mud, dirt, and sand and it fired. They froze the gun to about 36 below 0 and it fired.
Extreme heat, no problem. They are decent guns and only 33 parts to them. Less parts equals simpler and less things to go wrong
and break. Try one out before you write them off, you may be surprised ?
Even ruger is making nice polymer that has a feel of metal because of the shaping and checkering done on the grips.
The SR9, SR9c, and P345 are excellent.Last edited by PhillyGunslinger; March 7th, 2011 at 11:43 AM.

XD's and Glocks are some of the most reliable guns on the market. I would suggest going with the G23 if you can convince yourself of going with a polymer.

Check out your local police force. What guns do they carry for a duty weapon? (I would be suprised if it was not Tupperware.) As they are far more likely to have to use a weapon then you will, Do you think they would trust somethjng they were not sure of? And yes, my carry is a Glock 23.
