    Default Deer harvest report cards

Well, I filled out the deer harvest report card last week , stuck it in my visor and promply forgot about it till I lowered the visor and the card fell in my lap.

    Made me think and wonder.

How many of you actually fill these out and send them in?

If you don't, what reason do you have?

I doubt I have missed sending in a total of maybe one or two in the last 30 yrs.

I think I read somewhere that the PGC takes the ear tags from a select # of processors and checks how many of those ear tags have a corresponding report card sent in to give them an average of how many cards are sent.
Do you guys that cut up your own deer send these in?

I don't think I ever heard of the PGC doing anything to people who do not fill out the cards or if there is even a provision for doing anything if you don't.

What do you guys and gals do?

I always send mine in (and I cut my own deer).

I had to wait a day for the report card to dry out before filling it out and sending it in this year.

I always send mine in -

The bigger question I have is - Has anyone in here successfully drug a deer out of the woods and not lost/destroyed the ear tag? My drags have all been over a mile and a half and I lose/destroy every ear tag - I would be upset if I ever got fined or something stupid because of that - This year my ear tag was completely soaked from the rain/drag and was a big ink smear

FYI - picked up my deer meat today mmmmmmmm......

I have never lost an ear tag. I run a zip tie (cable tie) whatever you want to call it through the hole in the tag and then through a small slit in the ear. I then TUCK the tag in the ear. Then, I zip tie two more ties AROUND the ear so it rolls up tight.

I always send in my cards. I don't know why people don't. Many don't according to the PGC. There is no logical reason not to do so. You don't even need to put a stamp on it. Next year I think online filing will be available.

As far as losing a tag. Jules is doing it the right way. It's the way I was taught.

I can't remember if I read this online, or in this year's hunting annual.. but I do recal an article urging people to send in their report cards. There are a LOT of people who don't send them in.. I figure the more you report the closer management estimates can get.. that can only benefit me..

I don't think I have ever sent one in. Nor anyone in my family. Just forget about it by the time we leave until next year when we pull out the old license to put the new one in. Oh well...

What do they use them for anyway?

Also, I have never lost a tag out of the ear. I don't drag anywhere close to 1.5 miles as I just hunt from my truck in the road. Okay, just kidding. But we hunt fields and small patches of woods that are fairly close to the roads. Longest might be about a miles because of not being able to go across neighboring property and disturbing other hunters, so we had to take the long way back. But I also try to tuck the tag as far into the ear as possible. Not like it matters much because within an hour, the head is cut off and in a bag anyway.

Yeah I do the cable tie thing too... and the ear tuck thing... and I still end up with just a plastic deer earing - I guess it's the long rough drag through 4A -
