Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
Hi everyone. I have a friend that just bought a very nice Wildey pistol. However, the Wildey shoots a 45 Winchester Magnum round that nobody seems to have. We were at Cabela's over the weekend & they didnt have any. They suggested Midway, but I checked their website & they dont stock them either.
So does anyone know anyone in the area that either sells the 45 Win Mags or possibly someone that reloads that might have these rounds.
I'd appreciate your help as much as my buddy (Cuz once he gets some rounds, I get to play with it!!!)
Thanks
Chris

Re: Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
I know where your coming from since I have a LAR Grizley in .45 Win Mag.
Fun cartridge. This gun got me banned at Bullseye shooting center in Pittsburgh.
I wasn't banned just told not to bring that particular gun back.
Winchester.com shows that .45 WinMags are still available. You may need to have a stocking Winchester Ammunition Dealer order it special for you.
It is a rare cartridge since there were not that many guns sold that were chambered in it. They are not cheap so be prepared to get the Gold Card
out when your order them.

Re: Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
I was just at the Gander Mountain in York and happened to notice they had the same couple of boxes of Winchester .45 Win Mag ammo that have been sitting there for the better part of a year. I don't recall the price per box but it may be on clearance as the tag was orange. I always notice that ammo and it makes me think of Sam Elliott in "Shakedown" with his LAR Grizzly 45 Win Mag.

Here's a couple of online sources. The internet search engine is a wonderful thing. Just do a Yahoo or Google search for "45 Win Mag". Page after page of results.

You might try giving Scott a call at Taylors Trading Post. He might have some in stock. He stocks some rather odd ball cartridges.

Re: Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
You should know before you start shooting the Wildey that they can be finicky... have your friend stock up on whatever brand and type of 45 win mag he plans on using and then adjust the gun to that brand. I have one and two different types of ammo... When I have it set up for one type it works fine, if you then put in the other type it will not cycle and will jam each and every shell.
That said the gun works fairly well if you set it up per instructions for the round your using... the only other thing to be aware of is the magazines release is poorly designed and sets out enough on the top of the hand grip that the recoil can cause your hand to press it hard enough to release the clip... the best way to avoid it is to use your left hand to hold on the base of the hand grip when you shoot... Its the only gun I've ever own that I've had the clip drop out when I shot it... otherwise have fun when you get the ammo... and be ready for a long wait when they order it... Last time I ordered some it took nearly a year because apparently the factory only makes it once a year and when its shipped its shipped and your only other choice is tracking down a gun shop that has it.

Re: Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
Thanks for all of the info. I had actually forgotten about this thread. Oddly enough, this past weekend we actually found a shop that had 2 different brands of 45 win mag in stock. (Pachella's in Boyertown) the owner said he usually keeps a few boxes in stock.
I'll pass the other info along to my friend to aid him in setting up the pistol
Thanks Again!

Re: Where can I find 45 Win Mags?
Give us a week or so. We're a federally licensed manufacturer of ammunition and are ramping up to deliver a new line of personal defense ammo in various pistol calibers.
You can order straight from our website, as we have an online store and we currently have a few thousand rounds ready to go, although we haven't put them up into the inventory there.
Currently, we only have two variations on 45 Winchester Magnum ammunition, but we'll be adding more as we go since, as you have pointed out, "There isn't any out there!!!!"
Here at my shop I can tell you that I've been on back-order for 45 Win Mag for almost two years w/at least four distributors - I've given up after being down to my last 50 or so rounds (translated - I can't shoot my Grizzly coz I don't want to run out of ammo).
The address to my store's website is on my signature line.
Okay then, here's what we have, and in about a week or so you'll see it in the online store:
1.) 230 Grain JHP
2.) 230 Grain FMJ Ball
We only use nickel brass cases and provide all pressure and velocity specs for our ammunition.
Both of the variations above are right at what the stock Winchester velocities and pressures were.
We also have Grizzly discussion forums and other boards too. Let us know if there's anything you would like us to put up on the site or add as far as discussion boards go.
Later, we'll be introducing our "hydraulic" line of personal defense ammunition in 9mm, 38 spl, 357 Magnum, 38 Super Auto, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, and 50 GI calibers.
