    Default Follow-up on my LTCF

I posted in another thread that I'd let everyone know how my LCTF experience went. Since this really has to do with Montco I'll post it here.

Sat Feb 19- Dropped off check card at Skippack PSP barracks (they patrol my area). They informed me they would forward the card to the Montco Sheriffs office with 7-10 days. Very pleasant, no hassle.

Mon Feb 28- I called the sheriffs office this morning and was informed they rec'd my card so I decided to go. Upon arriving at the courthouse I lucked out with a broken parking meter! But that's where my luck took a break.

When I got to the sheriffs office I was informed "the computers went down". He asked if I'd like to take everything and try another day or leave everything there and they'd call me after they ran the check. I said, "Sure, keep it here and call me." I gave him my cell number and left thinking, I've heard the "computers are down" excuse before but what can I do.

I figured while I was out that way I'd drive up Main St a few miles to InSight Firearms in Jeffersonville to check out the store. I'm not inside 5 minutes and the sheriffs dept calls me saying the system came up and I'm all set. So I finish up my browsing and head back to the courthouse. It's raining at that point and I have to park a block away, and yes, the meter works and is empty.

So I huff it up the street, walk in the front doors (wheezing) at 12:23, pay the cashier $25, pose for my mug shot, handed my laminated license and exit the courthouse at 12:29. And that's with 2 deputies eating lunch while 1 worked the counter.

Would I have liked to walk right in, apply, and receive my LTCF in 30 minutes? Sure. But overall, it's not that bad considering what all the states around us do.

Montogomery Co. Sheriff Office is really bad compared to the other three counties in PA that issued me the LTCF. At least you got it done in one day...I had to come back a second time.

Always had good luck with the Montco Sheriffs Dept. It usually doesn't take long to renew and the biggest hassle is finding a parking spot.
