Looking for Garand Front Sight
I just got an M1 Garand from CMP. It is a great rifle with one exception: With the sight set to the lowest elevation, I still shoot to high. If I aim lower than I normally would, it is dead on. This leads me to believe that someone has removed too much from the front sight an that I need a new one.
Does anyone know of a good place to get one? All I have been able to find are National Match front sights. I don't have an NM rear sight: will an NM front sight work with a standard rear sight? If so, I will get one of them.

Re: Looking for Garand Front Sight
Contact the CMP and tell the your problem.. I think they will be very happy to solve your problem. The National Match front sight should work fine.
You may have to send them your original sight.

Re: Looking for Garand Front Sight
Have you ever shot a Garand before?
Define, "shooting high"? How high are you shooting? What type of sight hols are you using, 6 o'clock, etc?
Are you sure the rear sight is seated so that at the lowest setting the apeture is actually bottomed out? So shooters do not know how to do this. Do not just go by the elevation knob.

Re: Looking for Garand Front Sight
This is my first Garand, but I use the same six o'clock picture that I use with my M1 Carbine and my M1-A. With this sight picture, the rifle shoots about 6" high. The Garand sights are identical to the ones on the M1-A, so I am familliar with their operation.
Thanks for the advice though. I will take another look and make sure the sight can't go any lower.Last edited by SSCUSTER; December 10th, 2007 at 08:26 PM.
