9 L.I Gun Shop Employees Charged With Selling Assault Weapons
Not sure what to say about this one... Since when did putting a collapsible stock on an AR make it no longer semi automatic?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41652799...s-new_york_ny/
Nine people on Long Island have been accused of illegally selling assault weapons that had been modified to appear as if they were no longer semi-automatic.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said Thursday that five Nassau gun shops sold assault weapons to undercover officers during the course of a 10-month investigation. Four store owners and five employees of the stores have been arrested and charged, Rice said.
One suspect, Martin Tretola of Bellmore, "went so far as to demonstrate to undercover officers how to remove a temporary fixed stock and replace it with a collapsible one," Rice said.
Under state law, only law enforcement and certain members of the military are legally permitted to possess assault weapons, defined in New York as guns that reload automatically, hold more than 10 rounds or accept detachable magazines.
Authorities said the weapons were rigged so that they would no longer automatically reload -- a fix that was easy to reverse.
There were two incidents in which people who had purchased the weapons were arrested, but the illegal guns have not so far been linked to any crimes, Rice said.

Even better...

Rice said that shop owners were breaking the law by temporarily modifying the weapons to appear as though they lacked the required characteristics of an assault weapon. However, the temporary modification was easily reversible, thereby making them full-fledged assault weapons. For example, a pin was placed in the stock of a weapon in an attempt to prevent its collapse. However, the pins were designed to be easily removable making the stock collapsible.
"The nine men arrested today were openly breaking the law, making a practice of putting profits before the safety of our citizens, and flooding our streets with dangerous assault weapons," Rice said. "Make no mistake, these are combat-specific weapons and not intended for hunting. They have no place on our streets or in the hands of civilians."

They probably had the evil "thing that goes up" on the stock as well.

NY state has a non expiring version of the 1994 Federal AW Ban, just so you have a basis in NY law to refer to on this.
its also not "The firearm-related news important and relevant to Pennsylvania Firearm Owners." so its been moved here."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

yup, same as the Federal BS the rest of America put up with for 10yrs.
NY and i think Connecticut are one of the few states where "Pre-ban" means something to gunowners.
I'm not even gonna comment on the shitty reporting"Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Oh the humanity!

"Make no mistake, these are combat-specific weapons and not intended for hunting. They have no place on our streets or in the hands of civilians."
......
I understand that these people have apparently broken NY law, but my god... could their laws possibly be stupider, or more unconstitutional?

Dont forget the Peoples Socialist Repulic is keeping company with the idiots in NY and Commiefornia with regards to their still in place draconian AWB Ban.
In a very famous case from the early 1990's, right after Florio signed the NJ AWB, a guy named Pelliterri ? (sic) was railroaded into pleading guilty for illegal possesion of an " assault weapon" because he was found to have in his gun safe a Winchester .22 with a tubular magazine that exceeded the limit as allowed by law. He had won it in a gun club raffle or shoot or something and it was essentially a safe queen that hadnt been touched since he acquired it and put it in the safe.
In fact, the offices that confiscated and inventoried his collection even testified in open court that the weapon in question still had the factory tags looped through the trigger guard and it was obvious it hadnt been handled and the guy was still nailed to the wallSi vis pacem, para bellum
