    Default FL Permit

    Hi all:

I am new to the forums, and have already obtained my Utah CFP.

I am planning a trip to FL in the relatively near future and would like to legally carry as much as possible. A few questions for those of you who have the FL permit:

Do the fingerprints have to be taken by LEO? Where can I get them done?

Also, will FL honor my course I took in order to obtain the Utah CFP?

Any other information regarding FL permits is welcome.

    Thanks in advance!

If you're planning a trip to Florida, the best thing you can do is to make an appointment at the filing office the have (pretty much one in each county I think). I don't have the number handy, but you should be able to find it on the website for the Florida CCW.

You file the application on the computer with them, they do your livescan prints, they take your picture, they notarize the paperwork. Just show up with the money orders and your proof of training (from Utah should be fine, as long as you had to live fire during the training).

Doing it that way, its one stop, and you get the license in the mail a lot faster.

I think your PA LTCF is good in FL so why do you need another one?

Since the OP's location is listed as NJ, I'd assume a PA LTCF is not a reasonable possibility. I'm also assuming he/she doesn't want to apply during the upcoming visit to Florida and get the license on his/her return. The prints do need to be taken by an LEO.

The easiest way is to attend a class that provides "one stop shopping" (though you don't really need the class again). Check out http://www.personaldefensesolutions.net/ccw/CCW01.html. You show up on a Saturday morning (one is scheduled for this Saturday at Ready, Aim, Fire in Bristol, NE of Philly) and four hours later walk out with everything you need: fingerprint card (taken by an LEO), photos, notarized application, and training certificate. Then drop it in the mail with your $117 mail order.

If you just want the fingerprints done, I understand the Chester County (PA) Sheriff (in West Chester) will do it, but I'd call ahead.

He is a NJ resident. I doubt he has a NJ permit to get a PA LTCF.

OP, your Utah training will suffice for Florida.

Even if he did...non-resident LTCF wouldnt be good in FL anyway.

True, I am from NJ (ugh) and will probably be contacting Chester Co. Sheriff for my fingerprinting for FL.

I am going to do it by mail, that way I have the permit before I make the trip. The point of getting the permit is so I can carry when I make the trip to FL.

Everyone, thank you for your input and I appreciate all the knowledgeable information obtained from this thread! It's nice to be a part of a group of like minded individuals!

So long as you're not planning to go to Florida any time soon. The paper print is the slowest way to do it, so get everything done as soon as you can and send it out overnight. I've heard it can take a couple of months when dealing with the fingerprint cards. Good luck.
