!911 vs other 45 autos

Great post, I agree with everything accept I wanted to add to the above. Sure steel 1911's are heavy but their slides have a comfortable shape and are significantly thinner than Glocks.

What's my point? IMO, a Commander is more comfortable and more concealable to carry IWB than a Glock 21. A LW Commander even more so.

Everyone overlooked the fact that most plastics are 100 % from the get go. (if I missed that post, I apologize)

1911s need to be broken in (and sometimes not), and that is based on high tight the slide to frame fit is, when new. Mags need to be put through their paces as well.

The internal workings of the 1911 are a 100 year old design, with some modifications to the firing pin safety along the way. And these models were all steel (except grips), until plastic injection came about. Your plastic guns don't have the same innards as a 1911.

Told by a smitty out in Nebraska, that a 1911 match gun can be as reliable as any carry gun, if set up proper. His idea, take a 1911 production gun, rework the innards, and then you could drop that gun in a bucket of mud, shake it off, and still shoot 1.5" groups at 25 yds.

If you don't care about that, and the fact that a 1911 needs some extra attention, use the money to buy several plastics. Nothing wrong with that. It is what you feel the most safe with, as long as you are able to employ your firearm, when needed.

I have a S&W.38 model 10 4" HB (i have fat pacmyer grips on it) looks kinda cowboy!
I was looking for my first auto something that might be more concealable with a bigger punch than i have now.
The biggest problem i have is that i have large hands and most of the smaller concealable guns are just 2 small sometimes almost 2 fingers off the frame!
I don't want to have something that has alot of power without a good grip.
The 1911 fits nice.
But since i am a novice i want something easy to maintain.
My buddy has a mint SA1911 that he would sell me @ a great price
(but i know he's attached to it!)
so i am just going out ham handing eveything i see to get a feel for them.
Anybody with big hands have advice for cc auto?

I don't think a 1911 is all that complicated especially if you have any mechanical inclination.
I have big hands and short fingers I have 1911's and a glock27. I feel well protected with either.
In my opinion if you were to get a 1911 I'd stay clear of kimber. Some people love and some hate them. I almost went there cause I wanted a top of the line then I remembered and artical I read on Wilson Combat so I went that route. Expensive? YES Great Quality? YES Warranty? Lifetime
As far as carry goes. Both are safe as long as you keep your booger picker off the trigger. Carrying cocked and locked takes confidence in knowing that the gun will not go off by itself. I've never had my safety ever move off of safe unless I did it intentionally.
If you like the 1911 platform I say spend the money and go for it. Cleaning a glock is faster but not as enjoyable (to me). I like 3D puzzles and a 1911 is a steel puzzle that works.

What's the deal with those 1911's? Are those extended mag's? How many rounds do they hold? Are they reliable?

Ive owned a lot of 45s. Id say if you want a 45 semi auto stick with a good 1911. I've owned a bunch of Sig P220s and i must admit they werent as fun to shoot as a 1911. Ive now learned i only like sigs chambered in either 9mm or 40 S&W.
