    So does that mean that the military can not be used to put down a seccession atttempt if there was another one?

    That, I suppose, would all depend on what was seceding from what. Part of Nebraska breaking away to become part of Wyoming? The U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled that such things have to be ironed out by the states concerned. Part of Washington State breaking away to become part of Canada? Military involvement might become necessary if all other options failed, but would probably require authorization by Congress.

    What would indeed become interesting would be if Montana passed its law, ended up arresting federal agents and tried them in court. There probably might be no bail set since a flight risk to other states existed. The possibilities of "armed" confrontation would be a situation that nobody wants.
