Do you guys have to engrave your name and address on your SBR's?
Yes, you have to, as per the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934. All NFA items (MG's, silencers, SBR's, SBS's, DD's, AOW's,) have to be marked with the name and location of the manufacturer. For an SBR, you would be the manufacture even if you just chopped down an existing rifle. The only way to get around it is to buy a gun that came with a short barrel right from the factory. In which case, the name of the manufacturer would already be on there.

    Understood.

As you have probably guessed, the rules are quite different here in Canada.

Thanks for informing me about this.

That's a good question where you should engrave the conversion kit. maybe someone here can answer the question cause now i want to know if you have or not.

same as any other SBR, on the receiver, which is the "gun"
notice how Glock puts the number on an aluminum plate due to the polymer frame.

...and now comes the "but you can engrave the barrel too" comments. LOL

    AR180,

Is that an FNC or AR180 in your sig? Whichever it is, we don't see a lot of them around these parts. I hope it's the AR180, and think it is. I love those.

It was an Ar180b, but I changed it a few hours ago to a Sig 550.

I miss my Ar180b... shouldn't have sold it.

I think with a Glock you have little choice, but to engrave the barrel. There really isn't any more room on the serial number plate. I guess the trick is to find someone who's capable of engraving on a round surface that's melonited steel, and still have the engraving to the proper depth specified in the NFA laws. That can't be easy to do, that Glock steel is really hard.

What about the part about it being visible? If you engrave the slide, you won't be able to see it without disassembling it. Obviously the aluminum plate doesn't have room for a name and address, and engraving the polymer wouldn't work out too well.

You would have to engrave the outside for that very reason, per ATF specs.

Of course you cant use the plate, probably just straight to the polymer.
Im pretty sure you can have it laser or rotary engraved. Probably not something you want to take to the "trophy shop" for a quick fix.
I dont think it would be much harder or different than guys getting a stippling added to their grips.

    AR180,

Yes, if we make an SBR, it has to be engraved with makers name, city and state
