Two charged in West Ward shooting

Two men are facing charges in connection with a botched armed robbery Tuesday night in the city's West Ward, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli. Maurice T. Cook, 22, of Easton and Tyrone Wright, 22, Newark, N.J. have been charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

The duo attempted an armed robbery of Robert Pierce Jr. about 5:35 p.m. Tuesday night in the 200 block of South 11th Street. Cook and Wright forcefully removed Pierce's keys and cell phone and told him to be quiet and cooperate.
When the trio reached a sidewalk Cook told Pierce he was going to kill him. Cook put a gun to the Pierce's head and a scuffle ensued during which time Pierce, fearing for his life, pulled a gun of his own. A total of seven shots were fired, one of which struck Cook in the abdomen, who was later taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Fountain Hill for treatment.

Wright, who said he was a member of the Crips gang, is now in Northampton County Prison.

Morganelli said Pierce, who had a permit to carry the gun, will not face charges.

I think that stentence amazed me the most. I NJ resident with a CCP, shot the bad guy and won't face charges. Is there hope for NJ?

The news media hasn't picked this story up.... they would rather talk about the gun "control" bills that can't be passed.

The Brady bunch & other anti self defense types tell us to just cooperate & avoid violence.
I guess "just give them what they want" didn't work for the victim in this case.

I'm glad Mr. Pierce is OK.

I'm glad he was ok as well. I think he should have been able to draw and shoot before though. he could have easily died because he had to wait till there was a gun to his head to defend himself.

I'm glad that worked out for him and two bad guys are off the street.

That being said, the chances for survival in are cut exponentially if you follow a criminal to a secondary crime scene. NEVER let the bad guy take you anywhere. You may die if you resist initially, but your chances of dying are much higher otherwise. This goes double for women

    ^^Much wisdom.

If a criminal wants you to move to another location it is so that they can do something to you that they can not do to you in the present location. That means that no matter how difficult or tight things are this is your best location for the fight. However slim, you have a greater advantage. Do not give it up.
Never underestimate the value of early training.
