my grannie used a .410 to shoot snakes off the trail in backwoods washington state. that is small game a;most.

As others have mentioned, 410 is great, within reason.
Worst part of 410 is that ammo is disproportionately expensive.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into this a little bit more-I have a pacemaker that had to be installed under my shooting shoulder, and anything with a substantial recoil is forbidden, so I'm a .22 shooter, and now maybe a .410.
