Default My homemade carbon fiber grips.

So I've decided to share a few pictures of my homemade 1911 carbonfiber grips for my wifes kimber ultra carry. I started with a set of rosewood grips that I had sanded down years ago just to make them thinner and smoother. I sanded the grips then applied a coat of flat black paint so the brown wood grain would not show through the carbon weave. I then applied a coat of finishing resin to the grips and laid an over size piece of 2 oz. carbon cloth over the grips. I used a few clamps on each side of the grips to hold the carbon cloth down so it would not lift. Once it cures over night I trim and sand the edges but do not sand the "face" of the grips. Test for fit on the gun and give a second coat of finishing resin. Once cured I will sand with 2000 grit and buff to mirror finish.

My other plans got canceled so I was able to finish them today. This is my CDP with them on but they'll be going on my wifes stainless ultra as soon as she gets home.
