Default I discreetly carried my 9mm to a wedding. Was I wrong?

I have a question. Was it crazy of me to carry my 9mm Sig 229 to a wedding and reception? Let me explain. I carried the gun in a waist band inside the pant holster covered the entire time by a suit jacket. This wedding was on my wife's side of the family. The groom's mother was shot many years ago by her first husband. He is still alive. A member of the family had a husband place a hit on his ex-wife. He is still alive and lives within 100 miles of the wedding.

My daughter is 21 and very pretty. I feel a responsibility to protect her. My son is 6'3" and 24. He has a carry permit and doesn't take prisoners. I'm a professional guy. No one knew that I was carrying (except for my wife and children).

I'm asking if I'm off my rocker because I've told 3 friends about the wedding and some occurrences and that I had my gun with me. They all think it was ridiculous that I had this there at such an event. Was it bad judgment? I want serious feed back. I didn't drink. No one knew I had it. I felt safe and protected. If I shouldn't carry it there, what's the point in carrying?

Read this, and decide for yourself.

Unless the church or venue specifically stated "no weapons" and you have your LTCF, then no. Concealed carry is concealed carry.

if she was 42 and homely would you still protect her?

I see absolutely no problem with it. Carrying to a wedding is no different than carrying any where else.

I say carry the gun unless the place you went to for the wedding had advised that they don't allow firearms on their property.

Nope if I had a jacket that fit correctly I would have carried to the most recent wedding I was at. I'm good friends with one of the groomsmen and he was carrying as well. As already stated concealed is concealed. I'd rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

If you go through the hoops to get a LTCF, why not carry everywhere that you can?

Bad guys don't care what's going on when they decide to commit a crime. And it sounds like you had a legitimate reason for carrying anyway. That wouldn't be the first crazy ex story, I bet.

That's my view on it at least.

If one of the two potential "problems" showed up unannounced, and lives were at stake, would you be asking the same question?

Unless you are seeking "approval" from these people who are giving you grief, their opinion means little in the long run. Screw them.
