Thumbs down Lugar pushes to renew assault weapons ban

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) this weekend called on Congress to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

Lugar is the first GOP senator to call for increased gun control following the Tucson tragedy that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. But Lugar, who supported the initial 10-year-long assault weapons ban when it passed in 1994, said he's not optimistic about the chances for passing gun control legislation this Congress.

“I believe it should be, but I recognize the fact that the politics domestically in our country with regard to this are on a different track altogether,” Lugar told Bloomberg Television’s Al Hunt Jan. 14.

Lugar also noted the increase in ammunition sales since the shootings, which he suspected was out of fear that Congress might pass far-reaching gun control legislation in wake of the tragedy.

A couple of lawmakers floated gun control legislation last week in wake of the tragedy, including one of Congress's fiercest gun control advocates, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.). Her bill takes the assault weapon ban slightly further by banning the sales and transfer of high-capacity magazines that the Arizona gunman used.

Oh this isn't going to sit well with the 'Obama and the Dems will take our guns away' clan we have here.

So what's that argument about voting in Republicans to stop them?

Well this asshole needs to be voted out of office. You are right, an "assualt weapon" was not used, but a semi-automatic was used and most of the anti-gun moron's equate semi-auto with assault weapon and have no idea what either of those things mean. all of the news reports emphasis the fact that the "shooter had a glock semi-automatic handgun".....and that makes the sheep think that the guy was able to pull the trigger once and spray the folks with a million heat seeking bullets that hunted down children and politicians. That is why Lugar is pushing the assault weapon ban...the sheep have no idea what the hell it is and it makes all the easier to push it.

We understand that gun laws make no difference, and that a semi-auto handgun means nothing more than that it will eject the spent casing and chamber a round.

Next time they will vote in a real conservative (whether Dem, Repub, Independent, Green, Libertarian) instead of a Conservative in name only. He supported the AWB in '94, which means they voted him in AGAIN after that; dumbasses.

Richard Lugar? When did he change his last name? I'm pretty sure his Maiden name is "Head."

You may vote as you wish, but you will get one or the other. There is a difference though, Luger appears not to be running for nationwide office as his position is poison to the Republican voters. Shumer on the other hand is enhancing his chance at Nationwide office by doing the same. Rosanne Barre and Heidi Klum both take a dump, that does not mean their butts are equal in any other way. Lugar may be a butt head that doesn't make his party as ass oriented as the Democrats.

if he had used a revolver the antis would say that he used a police style pistol that can fire six shots without reloading. if he used a t/c contender it would have been a high powered hunting pistol used to taking big game. if it was a 22 they would call it the choice of hit men.
