Civil War era Justice musket?
I am enquiring about this for a friend who may be interested in selling this antique rifle. I wanted to know if anyone heard of these. Apparently it is made by Justice (supposedly a gunsmith) and I think it also says phila or PA on it. It has a bayonet, hammer (i think of the percussion cap type), trigger looks ok. Big caliber.
My friend paid about 375 for it 20 years ago. Anyone have any info?Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.

Re: Civil War era Justice musket?
I have no info.. To be honest, I never heard of such builder.
There was a time where there were hundreds, maybe even thousands of musket builders. Each putting their own name on their frontstuffers. ...Just about all it took was blacksmith skills and equipment.
Is it percussion cap or musket cap? About 50, 54, 58, 62, 69, or 75 caliber? 50cal = 1/2", 75 caliber = 3/4", 1 caliber = 1/100 inch. etc..
Pics would help some, it might be a copy of another production piece of the era. ...or a one-off.

I can get pictures, not sure when though. My friend told me that itt was an independent smith who put it together as a sort of "parts kit" if I heard my friend right.
Caliber was definatly at least .50, probably more. I am not familiar with muskets really at all, but it looked like you could put a percussion cap on this little raised knob, then the hammer would hit it and it would go off somehow. I'll see about getting some pics.Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.

Nice, I found this also. http://supreme.justia.com/us/81/535/case.html Details Justice's shenanigans.
Looked at the prices, should fetch about double what my friend paid. Incredible considering most of these guns were 20 dollars a pop! http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi seems pretty cheap for a gov contract.Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.
