Turned out to be a COMPLETE waste of money as they were total jam-o-matics with hollowpoints for the first 3 rounds of a mag. The front of Chip followers are totally unsupported and allow the round to nose dive and jam into the bottom of the feed ramp.
I then polished the feed ramp and the Chip's still jammed every first round whereas now the stock Taurus mags were loading the first of an 8 round mag 19/20 times.
Then just for kicks I tried using an older GI style 7 round mag with a bent-leg dimpled follower and it functioned flawlessly 100% of the time with 4 types of hollowpoints. So after inspecting this bent-leg dimpled follower design and reading this highly educational writeup*, I decided to order a checkmate 8rd mag and one of their bent-leg followers to try dropping into the chip mags.
Much to my disappointment, the checkmate 8rd mag still jammed the first round approximately 50% of the time, and swapping the checkmate follower into the Chip mags brought their first round efficiency up from 0% to about 50%.

At this point I just stick to what works and use my 7rd GI mag when I carry it, although when I get some time I plan on having the gun looked at by a reputable 1911 smith. Perhaps there is something actually wrong with the gun, beats me. Good luck figuring it out Pector, I've spent well over $100 trying different mags, followers, and ammo without much success.

Excellent information on that site. When I watch mine mag, an ACT-MAG, attempt to feed, it does nose dive the hollow point a bit. It appears that a mag which set the first round up higher and assured a good upward angle is what I need for the JHPs.

Correct, now finding a magazine that does exactly that seems to be the challenge . . .

The issue completely goes away, no matter what type of ammo or how many rounds, if I set the gun down on the base of the mag. This pushes the mag up inside perhaps an extra 1/8". That isn't measured, it's just eyeballed but I can say that once I do that, everything feeds as expected. I was going to order a couple mags so I'm glad to hear a recommendation.

Rep to you and rep to my man with the shooting tips. I actually don't shoot badly but I'm always listening to tips.
If the magazine is not seating right then it could be either the ejector blocking the magazine or it could be the mag release is either fouled or is not to size spec.

Strip the pistol to the frame, after removing the ammo and magazine

insert a magazine into the stripped frame, prefererably loaded.

See if the ejector is touching the back of the magazine.

If clear there, then time to clean out the magazine release.

With the magazine out of the stripped frame, get a hollow ground/shooters screwdriver kit. Press the magazine release, and with the other hand insert a tip of the proper size, and turn the screw, I think left, until the screw locks into place and the release falls clear.

Put the release in a LARGE hefty bag and then slowly turn the magazine release screw and let it under pressure clear the part.

Take the magazine relase and place it in the slot in the magazine. If it fits with no gaps, then you are good to go. If it is showing gaps then that part is not to spec and may need to be replaced.

On the magazine you have now, take it apart. Clean the insides out, and with a pair of needle nose pliers, GENTLY and SLOWLY bend the front of the magazine follower UP.

Just a dab will do ya.

Reassemble the pistol and try again.

    Good Luck

As a side note some hollow points will not feed into a 1911 regardless of the magazine used

Instead of the 'flying ashtray' design of the Remington Golden Sabers or the old CCI Lawman load, try another type. I use either Hydra Shocks or the Federal classic HP and have had no issues with them in my Gold Cup. If the round is not the same size as GI ball ammo, this can and will cause feed issues.

The checkmate mags have a different follower and feed release design that is supposed to help in this area. I belive they are called 'hybrid' magazines.

A quick search at 1911.org will give you better info on this subject.

Also check your extractor. Clean the hook of the extractor and the slot that the extractor rides in.. Might have some gunk stuck in there and getting that out might also help.
