Finished the Gun Cabinet....now I need another!
Once my collection got too big for my old cabinet I had to build a new one. The one I had before this only held 5 rifles/shotguns and had a little shelf below for ammunition and other stuff.
My current cabinet holds 10 rifles/shotguns and 5 handguns. The rough dimensions of the cabinet are 4' long X 1-1/2' deep X 6' high. It is made out of solid oak and stained red oak. It has a large space below for ammunition and cleaning supplies.
I just put the final touches on this a couple of weeks ago, and about a week before Christmas my grandfather passed away. He was an avid hunter in upstate New York, and I will more than likely be acquiring some of his collection.
I also have another family member that is not doing well and no longer hunts who is handing over his whole collection to me. So now I need to make space for 10-12 more long guns. I don't get rid of anything that belonged to family so the only option is to store them.
Just when I thought I was finished, nope. Back into the cold. I don't consider myself a wood worker but what limited skill I have is demonstrated in this cabinet.
Hope this gives someone some good ideas for storage. Enjoy!

awsome work, did you start from nothing or did you but the cabinet and make mods to fit the guns and then do stain work?

Hats off to you man! That cabinet looks amazing. I've always been interested in building furniture myself, but so far all I've made is a coffee table. If I had more time and money I would want to build all the furniture in my house! So did you have plans for that thing, or is it your own plan? Did you draw it out first, or just wing it? Good choice of wood and color, is that Minwax Red Oak? Also, where did you buy the wood?

Vetter, nope we started from nothing. My father actually bought me a Beretta M9 for Christmas and when I had nowhere to store it we both kind of looked at each other and said let's build a cabinet.
We basically knew how many guns it needed to hold and off we went. Everything on there was designed, cut and stained by dad and I.
Thanks everyone!

Thank you Keystoneman. As much as I would love to do that, Im not sure how fast I could crank them out or sell them. We both work Full-Time jobs and working on it just after work and weekends it took close to a month. I'll ask dad and we'll see what he says haha.
