Smile My first AR style rifle

I recently purchased an LMT defender on consignment for about $650 a few weeks back and I was curious to know what others think about LMT rifles. I took it to the range about a week and a half ago and it handled very well. This is my first expierence with an AR style rifle so any recomendations concerning ammo choices, sights and optics, slings, tools, and anything else that comes to mind.

$650? Is it the whole rif...? No, just BS'ing. LMT AR's are top shelf.

Before we can give you meaningful advice we need to know some things. What do you want to do with the gun, long range plinking, home defense, 3-gun?? About the rifle what is the rifling?

I agree that Lewis Machine is an excellent company.

another buzz in for the LMT... Very fine pieces of equipment. A nice price as well. Especially if it came with rails, sights, etc.
The Beauty of the 2nd Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

All of the above. The rifling is 1:7. On a side note: it has a standard carbine length 16 inch barrel but the hand guard is about 8 inches long. I am thinking about buying a quad rail foregrip but all of the carbine length forgrips are only 6 inches long. Also the front sight/gas block seems to be intergrated into the barrel. I'm not sure about what to do about that other than change the barrel entirely.

For a first rifle, you scored WELL! Most people get stuck with a Stag, RRA, or Shrubmaster for their first.

Now when you go to the range, small children will look UP to you, lesser men will want to BE you, and women will burn with desire FOR you. The further left on THE CHART your rifle scores, the greater your personal magnetism!

Thank you for all of the good feedback. I was worried if the quality of the Rifle was suspect since I got it for less than half of it's MSRP. Don't get me wrong the rifle is in excellent condition, I just live by the saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably is."

    You got a good deal!

It sounds like your rifle may have a mid-length gas system. Just look for rails that fit this length.

    Congrats on the purchase.
