Centerfire .17 or .22

Does anyone make a .17 or .22 centerfire round that is similar in chamber size to the .223 but short like the HMR or Mach 2?

Never saw one, just thought it would make an interesting round to fire from AR variants and other platforms.

You might want to look into the 22 hornet. About 500 fps faster than 22 mag.

Also the 223 wssm, very short.

May I ask what OAL is desired? Might help people trying to help a bit

Like jsb889 the only two I can think of would be the 22 hornet or the 223 WSSM. One problem with the 223 WSSM is that it can tend to be a throat burner if you plan on shooting it a lot. Small bore caliber cartridges in the high power category tend to burn out the throat rather quickly much like many of the magnum cartridges do. I don't think your going to find a much more effecient small caliber round than the 223 for the AR platform.

This is the round (and it's .243 brother) are what I was thinking of. I was wondering if they would be bigger in the casing or just shortened from the .223 Rem case.

I think I will try to find one to test fire.

the 221 fireball is a bit shorter also the 17 fireball the wssm's are slightly shorter but almost double size around

Don't waste your money on WSSM. Those calibers haven't been accurate out of most rifles....and not to mention they will burn your barrels very quickly.

The calibers you mentioned are rimfire and not "centerfire", so get your wording correctly. There is a 17Remington that is centerfire, but the 17HMR and Mach2 are both rimfire.

He never called the mach 2 or HMR centerfire

I'll agree that it might not be worth it. It supposedly does wear barrels, but I think its a bit too new to be deciding that yet. If anything, wait a while before you decide and research how quickly it would go bad. It'll definately go faster than a 223, which is what I'd reccomend. Much, much more common, a little less bite for less $$ and more barrel life. Your call
