carrying around a felon

I forget about this every year till christmas eve comes around and I end up in the same house with my aunts brothers kid who I know is a felon and (ex)drug addict. I tried to logic this out but then I realized I was dealing with gun laws and then decided to search and can come up with nothing that will make me carrying around him illegal but does anyone know of a statute that speaks against this.

edit: clearly the simple answer is don't go where he is but I have two problems with this, first I'm not about to reschedule my life because someone else is a fuck up and second....if I didn't go then I'd have to deal with a very angry mother and this isn't a battle i'm willing to fight

I don't know of any technical laws, but it'd be pretty hard for them to prove that you KNEW that your cousin, through further marriage, was even a felon in the first place.

I would think that as long as you remain in complete control of your firearm, that you are fine.

It's if he would get possession of it that would be a problem.

You are the one in possession and control of the gun. Unless you grant him access I don't see where this is a problem. Should you avoid going shopping because there may be felons in the store with you? I see no issue.

Statutes only say what you cannot do, not what you can do.

As long as you do not transfer (or lend) a firearm to your ex-con relative you are fine. A law against being in a room while armed with an ex-con would make every and anyone a criminal. We have not gone to that extreme of a police state, yet.

I'm unaware of any law that would prohibit you, while maintaining control and possession of a firearm, from being in the presence of a felon.

All the laws I've seen regarding felons and gun possession only deal with the actions of the felon himself. If you facilitate or otherwise aid the felon in those illegal activities I suppose you could be charged as an accomplice or complicity.

Based on what you describe, I don't see any issue but I would assure that all firearms of mine are either secured or under my direct control.
