What style of AR should I build?
Ok,
So I've decided to build myself an AR-15 and can't decide what. I'm thinking of either a Dissipator type Carbine with A2 upper or a flattop 11.5" SBR. It will be off an Aero Precision stripped lower.
What would you guys do?
PS: I'm in Canada, so I don't need a tax stamp or to go through any extra paperwork to build the SBR.

Re: What style of AR should I build?
I never cared for the looks of the Dissapator style upper, personally.
I did pay the tax and built a 10.5" SBR on a Sabre Defence lower with Magpul CTR stock:
It's wearing a Bushnell Trophy MP Red/Green optic and MI rear BUIS. The upper is a used Colt I bought over at ARFCOM. It didn't have a lot of wear, and the entire rifle functions 100% with brass- or steel-cased ammo. I've not had one blip with it in over 3000 rds. It rides in an unobtrusive small rectangular ballistic nylon zippered case, with three magazine pouches on the side. Great for a BUG.
Of the four ARs I own, this one gets to play the most often.
Hope this helps, and best wishes whichever way you go.

Re: What style of AR should I build?
Mostly just going to use it as a fun gun to take to the range, maybe do a few CQB competitions with it. It's not going to be used for home defense or hunting (because my country sucks sometimes...).
My concern is more with form over function.
Yah, you do need to inform the Canadian Firearms Center of any changes in the firearm that result in a change in classification to the firearm, but putting a 10" barrel on your 10/22 (as long as the OAL remains above 26") or adding a stock to a pistol does not result in a change of classification to the firearm.Last edited by Ar180shooter; December 20th, 2010 at 11:43 AM.

Although I sort of have both, in your specific case, I'd say go the SBR route, because I'm not sure that there's a downside to the short barrel.
Do the "CQB competition" rules allow pistol calibers? Might save you a bunch of cash on ammo.Removed NRA Life Member pic. LaPierre and Chris Cox are ruining NRA.
