Default Traveling to Michigan - any advice on carry laws?

Going to be visiting the inlaws in Michigan over the holidays, and this is my first time with an ltcf and carrying a gun. (yea I'm a newbie, but hey at least I'm trying)

I understand they have reciprocity with PA, but Ohio (state I need to drive thru) doesn't. Are MI gun laws similar to PA's regarding CC or OC? also am I allowed to carry thru Ohio or do I need to lock box my gun while passing through?

Any advice is appreciated. If there is another thread with this information feel free to point me there and mods can remove this one.

You might want to check out handgunlaw.us for a better idea of what the laws of their land are...

You'll need to transport unloaded in Ohio. AND Ohio strangely considers a gun loaded if there is a loaded magazine or speedloader for it anywhere in the vehicle.

Michigan recognizes a LTCF (under whatever name) from any state as long as it's a resident permit (i.e. no Florida loopholes)

    Where you Can't CC:
    Pistol Free Areas

Individuals licensed to carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited from carrying a concealed pistol on the following premises:

    1.
Schools or school property but may carry while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off or picking up if a parent or legal guardian

    2.
Public or private day care center, public or private child caring agency, or public or private child placing agency.

    3.
    Sports arena or stadium

    4.
A tavern where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the premises

    5.
Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official allows concealed weapons

    6.
An entertainment facility that the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or more

    7.
    A hospital

    8.
A dormitory or classroom of a community college, college, or university

    9.
    A Casino

"Premises" does not include the parking areas of the places listed above.

Note: some of the above areas you can open carry in if you have your LTCF (CPL) but seeing how your just visiting, I'd just recommend avoiding them, and enjoy a hassle free vacation.

If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?

Just in case you missed it in the reading http://handgunlaw.us/states/michigan.pdf Michigan is a shall inform state.

An individual licensed to carry a concealed pistol who is stopped by a police officer (traffic stop or otherwise) while in possession of a pistol shall immediately disclose to the police officer that he or she is carrying a concealed pistol either on their person or in their motor vehicle.
-Failure to disclose this information to a police officer carries the following penalties:
--First offense = State Civil Infraction - $500 fine and 6-month CCW license suspension.
--Second offense = State Civil Infraction - $1000 fine and CCW license revocation.

If you'd have mentioned this sooner here, we would have told you to get a AZ permit, as it is recognized in OH and only takes like maybe 2 weeks to get.
And it's all done by US Mail.

You should still apply for one now, but you probably won't get it in time for this trip.

Both give you many states of reciprocity, including OH.

I believe AZ is less expensive.

UT requires a special training session done by a UT certified instructor, while AZ will accept a military discharge, hunter's safety course or NRA live-fire course.

AZ has been much faster to acquire as well

    from the link you posted, and located at the bottom of the page;

All training for an AZ CCW permit MUST be conducted within the borders of the state of Arizona.
