Default at what point do you renew you LTCF?

So I am curious. How many people renew their ltcf because of how their card looks? I took notice my cc type ltcf is worn. Does anyone replace theirs or just let it go, and just wait to it expires? Other cards in my wallet rubbed up against it for too long.

I have the same issue - I've had it for several years and the ink has rubbed /faded off of the card. I had it behind a clear plastic protector thing in my wallet, and half of the picture has transferred onto the plastic. So if I take the card out of the plastic it looks terrible.

But rest assured, I remember somebody from some sheriff's department / issuing authority explaining that the extra $21 fee was OK because we got such a high quality durable card.

I can't remember who said that now

We have been told not to come in before 30 days of the expiration date. They don't want to be wasting their time.

My card is so scuffed up it is virtually illegible. I will renew it as soon as I get the notice it is about to expire. If they want me to carry a legible card around, they can provide me with one.

So you can't go when ever and get it done? Odd

Here in Beaver County we had/have the driver license type cards. Mine got pretty bad after about 3 years. Back to the sheriff's Dept and got a new replacement for 5 bucks. In and out that quick.

According to the state statutes, a sheriff is supposed to send out a renewal notice/application at least 60 days prior to the expiration of each license.

However, the statutes do not say how soon before the expiration date you can renew.

So apparently, you can renew anytime, if you desire to. If a sheriff would do that is another issue.

IIRC, when I went to renew at the Mont Co. court house several years back, they treated the renewal exactly the same as a new application - Go get the local PD background check, then come back to them....

The only difference was that they checked the "Renew" box on the license itself.

I asked them at the time, "So, let's say I lost my LTCF, and simply need to come in and renew to replace?"

The officer's answer: "Then don't lose it. It would take a pretty stupid person to do that."

I gave up trying to have a rational conversation with him, paid and left with my "renewed" LTCF...

    YMMV

    Regards,

    Bones
