Re: M1903, need help
Hard to see it, being about a 1" picture when I bring it up. Value depends on a lot of things; manufacture, model, date, etc.. Some are worth thousands of dollars, some are worth a few hundred. I have a 1941 Remington manufactured 1903, unfortunately not in original condition, but she's a wonderful shooter.

Re: M1903, need help
Yeah, what did it set you back? Best "shop" prices I've seen lately are in the $700-$800 range, higher pricing than that for real nice examples. I can't tell by the pics, is the barrel blued or parkerized (it should be blued)? The serial number would make it a 1930 manufacture date.
Slightly older edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values (27th edition)
Values reflect 100% original guns.
Subtract 80% if reworked.
US Model 1903 Springfield Serialized 1,275,768 and up, nickel steel receiver,
100% $3,950.00, 98% $3,250, 95% $2,750, 90% $2,500, 80% $2,100, 70% $1,650, 60% $1,350.Last edited by JesterPgh; December 9th, 2010 at 12:57 AM. Reason: reference

Re: M1903, need help
Interesting...early rear sight, late "C" stock, appears to be a Type 8 judging by the apparent lack of a bolt handle recess. I suspect it's original but not common. The stock was used on DCM & NM 1903s, possibly rebuilds.

Re: M1903, need help
Found it on consignment at a local shop, paid 550 for it. Story is a kid (probably in his 20's, so "kid" is relative), brought it in, it was his grandfathers who bought it new back in the day and recently took it out of the cosmoline. Judging by the rust, i'd say recently is a relative term as well, but no one in the chain suspects it has been reworked.
