Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this revolver. Was considering the stainless option but the aluminum frame model is less money and still shoots +p ammo.

Strictly my opinion - never been a Taurus fan. Buy a S&W Airweight (rated for +P). There is a $50 rebate on .38 & .357 J-frames until 12/31. Make your best deal and then send in for the rebate. Buy quality and only cry once.

Re: Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
I have an 85 in stainless and so far its run and run well.
Sad thing is that on the Taurus line its hit or miss on the qc or the customer service
As far as getting an aluminum framed revolver that small...think again. The recoil on +p in a snub is steep, but an aluminum frame makes it a bit more aggravating.
If you can try to find a place where you can shoot both versions and see how it feels recoil wise to YOU
good luckgotta love her ;)

Re: Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
Been the owner of a Taurus 605 stainless for nearly twenty years and the pistol has always performed flawlessly. I like the weight savings of aluminum frame guns, however they are very unpleasant to shoot with defensive ammo, so I stick with steel revolvers.
See if you can shoot someones aluminum or titanium snub nose before buying one. Remember, you need to practice, practice, practice to be proficient and nobody wants to practice with a very unpleasant weapon.

Re: Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
Grices in Clearfield has S&W 637 Airweights listed on sale for $399-$50 rebate till Dec 30, making them $349.95.
2", stainless, rubber grips.
For that money, no way would I go with the Taurus, don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of Taurus revolvers and have had pretty much no complaints, but for only $20-$30 more, I'd never pass up a Smith.

Re: Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
i bought a silver 85ul about 3 years ago and only shot about 200 rounds through it. so far no problems to report... I cannot comment in regards to the recoil since this is the only 38 ive ever fired.

Spot on IMO. Especially with the rebate. Get on it while you can.
I said this in a different thread elsewhere. Why gamble on getting a lemon? You can spend another couple bucks (it really isn't that much) and get a sure thing. I'm a gambling man, but not with my life, or my firearms. Mostly roulette and blackjack.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

Re: Taurus 85 .38 special Aluminum Frame
Sorry to add to the chorus but I had the Taurus 85 airweight for a year and sent it back twice because the cylinder froze - same problem twice. It is very light and got it because revolvers "never have a problem". Kicks like a mule too.

I've had the 85 blued version for about 4 yrs. Never had an issue with it. You have to get used to the recoil for follow up shots if this is your first J frame revolver. Usually carry it as bug in an ankle holster.
