    Default Maverick Arms .243

Ive been looking for a new rifle that I can do some predator hunting with in .243. I didnt want anything fancy, just something to clunk around but I was looking for something with a heavy barrel. I came across a maverick arms .243, it has a 22" heavy floated barrel. The price was $279 so I figured what the heck if its junk I wont be in the poor house, and bought one. Does anybody have one of these, or heard of any pros/cons on the rifle? Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I believe Maverick was one of the names some Mossbergs were sold under which most of the ones I seen were shotguns. Without seeing it this is tough but it may be an 800 Mossberg (US Made). If the safe is on the rear bolt tang in the center of the rifle and the bolt has 6 small locking lugs on it, my guess is an 800 Mossberg. The 800s were good guns and most of them shot well. If my guess is off, a photo would help. I hope this helps.

I was wrong. This is new rifle based on the new Mossbergs. The last 800 was made I think in the 80s. Sorry!

I bought a Maverick in .308 late last summer. Just took the first deer with last Saturday. Its mounted with a Bushnell Banner 3X9X40.

The Mrs. bought me a Mossberg 100 ATR in .30-06 for a birthday gift just after they arrived on the market. It is mounted with a Bushnell Legend 3X9X40. Comparing both side by side, the action and barrel seem identical. The stock shapes differ slightly.

I also just bought a Dick's exclusive "Trophy Hunter" ATR 100 in .308 on Black Friday for $249. It is furnished with a checkered wood stock and low end 3x9x40 scope. I obtained a rain check for one in .243.

They get a lot of bad reviews and comments on the web. Seems to be the gun that many like to hate. I like them.

Mine shoot extremely well and don't seem to be at all finicky with factory brand ammo. I like the recessed barrel, if only for asthetics. The trigger on my .30-06 is absolutly sweet. It was a bit hard when new, but has lightened up very nicely. The Maverick .308 came from the factory with what I consider a typical hunting rifle trigger pull, but a nice break.

The first deer with the .30-06 was ranged at 133 yards. The rifle was zereod at 100 yards with Federal 180's. It is now one of my "field" hunting rifles, zeroed at 200 yards with the same ammo.

A buddy has an ATR in .243. He's had it for about three years and is also very satisfied with it.

Less then $300 for a bolt action rifle is a deal now days, the Name brand hunting rifles are double that and the Bull barrels ones are triple that. I may check into the Maverick bolt action probably in .223 or .243. If I like it I may get a 300 win Mag Merverick the name don't mean that much to me if the products performs as a matter of fact I like reasonable price products that save me MONEY!!!

    Academy is selling them here.

Grice's has them on sale till Jan 27 for $249.95.
    Matte Blue, syn, in 243Y, 243, 270, 308 & '06

I'm not a big Grices fan, but if someone is looking for one of these, that seems to be the place to get one.
