New Firearms Q&A Site needs help to get off the ground
Hello all,
I'm a long time lurker, occational poster here. I though some people here might be interested a new Firearms Q&A site that is trying get off the ground.
But first full disclosure:
1. I am an employee of the company running this site however, I am not doing this at the behest of the company - I was a long time user of another one of their sites first, and am posting this because I think it can be a great resource for firearms users on the internet.
2. Have ran this past danp before posting and have his blessing.
Ok, now that that's out of the way.
The site is currently looking for people willing to commit to participating.
It is not a site that is looking to compete with forums, it is a software engine tuned to get great answers to questions. The goal of our company is to make the internet a better place.
The proposal is located at: Stack Exchange Firearms Proposal
Some info about the process can be found here:

Re: New Firearms Q&A Site needs help to get off the ground
Yes, we are very aware of these concerns and are working on a solution for people who don't have accounts with one of those other sites already so they don't need to go sign up for one. I'm not sure of the implementation time frame however.
Also it should be noted you can use more than Facebook or Google if you have them.
The accounts we can use to log in by clicking through are:
- MyOpenID
- AOL
- Live Journal
- Wordpress
- Blogger
- Verisign
- Clickpass
- ClaimID
Or any other openID provider via the text box.

Re: New Firearms Q&A Site needs help to get off the ground
While I can understand why you'd think that using another login would be a privacy fail, it is actually the exact opposite. Sites make use of this to avoid forcing users to fill out a form and reveal information about themselves like email address. I know at my sites if you use facebook to create your account I don't have access to your email address... In their case they ask for an email address but that isn't required to use this login technique. The nice thing is that if you are already logged into facebook you can hit the link to commit and go nice and quickly without having to "signup" for yet another site. I'm a real fan of websites doing this. I need another username and password to remember like I need another (insert useless thing).
Seems like a cool idea and I like the way it started and then branched out into new domains of expertise. I love your example of an off topic question:
What's the best gun in Halo? 23 votes
I can see how mixing firearms with games could lead to a bit of confusion
Anyway, I committed and I'll participate once it gets going.
