So am I to understand that just on somebody's accusation, you can have your rights stripped away? Or is there more to it that I am not understanding?

greg beat me to it....damn i type slow.

pretty much zach, some crazy chick or nutty neighbor, or some practical joker files a PFA and you get your most important rights flushed down the toilet....it is a sad thing for most of the reciepients of such orders who are usually no harm to the filer.

in my opinion something like that should be reformed in the new castle doctrine bill

It's bad, but not quite that bad.

PFAs may only be filed against family or household members including parents and current or former sexual or intimate partners including spouses.

Pretty much, but the defendant has to meet the definition of a "household or family member".

    I've seen them denied....the waterworks start.....then approved.

The usual scenario is boy knocks up girl. 9 Months later the taxpayer has another mouth to feed down at the housing complex. Girl applies for PFA (citing name calling some months prior) because the new father is coming around again and being a pain in the ass. Surprise, it's approved and served. Several weeks later girl discovers that she could use boyfriend's checks so they rekindle their love. All is right with the world until a couple weekends later when they get in an argument and she calls the po-po because he violated the PFA for being at her house. He gets arrested. A month later it goes before the judge. She refuses to testify because she needs his checks again and the charge gets dismissed with costs on the county. Round and round we go.
