Woman + LTCF = This post
I’ve got a confession to make…I've been spying on you all for the past month. I came across this page while doing a ton of research when I got the idea that I might want to purchase a handgun and begin carrying. I found this forum incredibly informative, spending countless hours reading, studying and chain smoking, figuring out just what it is that I wanted to purchase and if I was prepared to begin carrying. After reading a ton of posts from women, about women and for women who decide to purchase a handgun and make the commitment to carrying, I figured I'd put my female spin on making the decision to carry, as it felt like I couldn’t read enough about other women’s experiences. I’ve chosen a career that is in a corrections setting, working with inmates on a daily basis. I’ve grown to be very aware of my surroundings and very aware of my capability of defending and protecting myself. After listening to years of firsthand, inmate accounts of the crimes they had committed and the innocent bystanders that they’ve harmed in their destruction, I began to notice a theme in their stories – the innocent bystanders that fell victim to my inmate’s violence rendered themselves helpless by not arming themselves. And in that moment of realization, I decided I didn’t want to be one of their victims. Not me. Not ever. After a month of research and numerous trips to the county courthouse to interrogate the Sheriff with every question I could think of, I finally took the plunge. After handling what felt like 100 different handguns and asking a million more questions, I purchased a Walther PK380. And after doing some thinking about my “capability to pull the trigger” when my safety was jeopardized, applied for and got my LTCF. I’ve been happily carrying for almost 3 weeks now. Just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for their insightful posts and introduce myself as the newbie. Hi, I'm Alexis!
And, of course, had to share.

Welcome to PAFOA. Kudos on duing your research and thinking things out. Rep sent.
P.S. Someones going to say this so I will. Never put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to fire.

Welcome, you definitely made a great choice. I have to commend you for having the best manicured hand while holding a gun that I've seen outside the movies. And yeah... Booger hook off the bang switch. I realize 2 people above me said that already, but one can never hear it enough.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. And the "continuing education". All the "don't do it like that" is more than welcome!

Welcome to PAFOA!
And since everyone else has already covered it, I'll mention the first thing I thought of when I saw your post...
GAH!! White balance!

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Heh. I didn't even notice the trigger finger.
MY first thought was in regards to your screen name... would your friends LOL at the name you've chosen?
It's funny. My wife and I were at a party last night and had a conversation with a woman who is "afraid" of firearms that aren't "locked up". When my wife mentioned that she has a Glock 9mm at hand as a means of defense, this woman asked "Aren't you afraid you'll just start shooting at anything that moves?, I'm VERY paranoid, and I'd just start shooting!"
(blink. blink.) "No", my wife replied. "I wouldn't just start shooting - I know how to use it, and I will do so in order to protect myself if I must."
There are obviously people who are not suited for defending themselves - thankfully, you appear to be much more level headed than the lady at the party.
Welcome to the forum.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
