Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
I was up there yesterday from 2:30 to 3:30pm. Nice day, windy, my targets kept blowing off. Two others at the pistol range. One was professional, using a Ruger MKIII with a scope. The other was a wild cowboy with a single action .38 and a 1911. Cowboy demonstrated rapid fire with both guns. Blazing off the hip with the .38, one handed rapid magazine emptying with the 1911. Wasn't even shooting at a target, just blasting into the rear berm. Oh well, he was gone after ten minutes. After he left, the other man came over to me and confided that he was happy to see him go. I was about to say the same thing. It annoys me that for some reason I never see the PGC around when idiots are doing things like that. I had to warn him once about sweeping me with his muzzle when he was reloading the .38. He shrugged it off but I wasn't kidding.
In any case, I had a good shooting day, firing 2 new guns for the first time. I'll probably be up there a lot more often now that the weather has broken for good and I have some free time on my hands. Probably not on weekends though...I value my life way too much for that.Last edited by PoconoJo; June 3rd, 2011 at 07:25 AM.

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
hoping to go up there tomorrow morning/noon. anything i should bring?
first time going. i got permit, ear plugs, safety glasses, ammo, guns, targets, guess i need clips to hold targets up? i've only seen overhead and never been to that type of range, indoor provides T's and clips to hang targets.

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
Stapler or pushpins. Stapler is better. Also best to bring a second person. To watch your gear while hanging targets. Just in case.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
You're not too far from me. You know how to get there right? W on 80 to 380, get off at exit 8 & make left at stop sign, go down about 1 1/2 miles and you will see the brown sign on the right.
Thinking about it make me want to go now......
Should I bring the AK pistol or his big brother? Hmmmm...

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
i used google, found LAT/lon and then zero'd in on the range, then found the same area scrolling around on my gps and saved it, then plotted the course.
i spent about an hour there, it was a little crowded in the pistol area <i'm thinking they should create another zone with another 3 close shooting stands, so people could check targets independent of the existing 6 lanes.>
there were cases everywhere on the ground & the range had plenty of targets left up, but overall the "benches" were clean and there didn't seem to be any garbage laying around.
i tried to pick up about what i shot, the mosin was easy to identify and grab but the 9mm i was just grabbing what was laying around. got a handful of .40 brass now.
when i was getting ready to pull out a patrol came in and was asking the people for their permits.
it was a nice trip, i should've left earlier and grabbed a spot in the close pistol area.
i'll try to post a day ahead of time, next time i go. maybe can meet some pafoa guys.Last edited by fallenleader; July 28th, 2011 at 05:02 PM. Reason: spelling.

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
Can people with permits bring guests that don't have them?
Reason I ask is I have some clients coming up from NY, one of which has never shot and he is really interested in learning.

Re: Tobyhanna SGL Range Reports
I can't find the regulations right now. I have a copy at home. IIRC you can bring one guest when you have a valid range permit.
Link added.

Exceptions to this new permit requirement are those 15 years of age and younger properly accompanied by a licensed or permitted person 18 years of age or older. Each licensed hunter or range permit holder may have one guest.Last edited by Vrez; July 28th, 2011 at 05:49 PM.
