Default Looking for a Polytech AK

    hello,
I've caught the bug and am rapidly becoming an AK aficionado and really want one of the best. Where can i get my hands on a preban poly tech ak, fixed stock? I checked gunbroker and people are out to rob you with prices as high as $3,000 which i think is ridiculous. Is there other places to buy these? I know they're rare, no longer imported, etc etc. Just curious maybe someone knows something I haven't tried yet. Thanks!

I don't know what's worse the $$ they are asking or the $$$ they are getting.

There was one in classifieds on here a month a ago NIB for a good price.

You really have 2 options ...

    1) Gunbroker
    2) Gun Websites like (PAFOA, akfiles, theakforum.net, ar15.com,etc)

    Good luck and post pics.

Your chances of finding one for less than 1K are slim.

My sense of the current market conditions:

    >stamped receiver, fixed stock, used, good shape --> ~ $1200
    >milled receiver, fixed stock, used, good shape -----> ~ $1500
    > add another $200-$300 for a folding version (used)

On a side note, when watching the Barrett-Jackson car auction shows
I often think we gunnies are pikers in comparison to the monies that change hands
    at those venues.

Your best chance at shaking one out of the bushes is to simply
state how much you're willing to spend in a WTB ad.

See, those prices are almost realistic in my opinion for something that is rare to begin with. The problem is, people are asking double that...

A buddy of mine in Mass. has one he's thinking about getting rid of. I think its a folder too.
Let me hit him up and see what he wants for it.
Pretty sure its NIB or damn close to it.

If you ABSOLUTELY must pay pre-ban green on an AK, look for an original Mitchell Arms imported Yugo AK. They came in fixed, U/F, and RPK.

They were considered to be in the Top 3 of AKs of the 80's - along with VALMETs M-guns and the VALMET-derived Action Arms IMI Galils. These 3 guns were the creme de la creme.

Any of these 3 AKs/derivitives put the CHICOM guns to shame, save for the few Keng's PolyTech Legends that made it in before 89.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

TheMan said that he wants a Polytech, not a Valmet or Galil, more over a Valmet M62 is running about $6000, a Galil $ is running about $3000 and all are still just copies of the original AK, wherein the Polytech/Norinco is still a truer copy of the AK design, and to think that back in the day when milled Polytechs were selling for $600 we thought thet were expensive.

Your best bet at this point is to either pony up the dollars that the Gunbroker types want or convert one of the post-ban rifles to 922r - assuming you can still find a Poly Technologies rifle in post-ban configuration (not likely).

Then of course you could also find one of those safe queen Norinco MAK-90 sporters still out there and 922r convert it - you'll probably save at least five benjamins doing that, and have practically the same rifle (minus the bayo lug and cleaning rod).
These are the exalted gharāniq, whose intercession is hoped for. LMAO
