Re: $1500- Anything better than Dan Wesson Valor SS?
lots of good 1911's can be had for 1500 including the SA TRP, wilson combat, kimber, Colt and the DW. before deciding i'd suggest you handle several 1911's and see which one fits you best and which one provides the most features for your 1500. if it's not to far of a drive from Wayne checkout classic pistol in s. hampton, pa because they have a great selection of medium to high end 1911's in your price range. i figure it's probably less than an hour drive from wayne to classic pistol. classic pistol has such a great selection of firearms that even if you don't get the 1911 there it's still worth the drive just to see what they have and checkout the range. with all that said i don't think any of the 1911's mentioned are significantly better than the other so it's going to boil down to which gun fits your hand best.

A DW is good, but it's not a Baer.

But you can't get a Les Baer for $1500 NIB, maybe used if you are lucky but not new. What makes the Les better besides the Name?

Re: $1500- Anything better than Dan Wesson Valor SS?
The biggest difference to me is that the Baer will be carbon steel slide and frame where the DW Valor will be stainless steel. DW are very tightly fitted and are close to baer's in that aspect. Both are extremely tight.
TRPs are the best that SA has to offer but the triggers on them suck compared to the Valor or Baer. Customer service is great from what I hear.
I have needed to use DW customer service and they took care of shipping both ways. However, their warranty is only 5 years.

If you are looking used, you should be able to get one well under 1500. I've seen them go under 1300 in good condition. I actually had to pass on a very nice one for 1250 because I just didn't have the cash. Keep your eye on gunbroker and the forums.
