Default Hear me out on this-

Sorry about the bad pun, but...recently my old earmuffs gave up the ghost. Usually, I wore plugs and muffs....I'm ready to try a pair of those electronic muffs that let conversation through but cancel out gunshots. I'm a former licensed hearing conservationist, and understand NRR numbers, etc- what I really want to know is what kind of these muffs do you use and how effective and comfortable are they? I do shoot an awful lot more than most, both rifle and pistol. I placed this here because pistol shooting seems to give me the most trouble noise-wise.
I've found the opinions and advice here at PAFOA to be extremely useful. Thanks for your help!

A friend of mine has the ones that are molded to your ears and are the electronic ones. He paid a big sum for them but he loves them.

I have 2 pair of electronic muffs... Pro ears gold and Peltor Tactical Pro...(The kind that you can wear a hat over the muffs...The peltors are much quieter but if you run with them on they may slip off..Both cost about the same ($300) but can be found cheaper at gunshows..($200)

I have the Howard Leight Impact Sports. From what I've seen they are the thinnest on the market and the price is awesome. They also work great. I can't believe how much of the shooting experience I was missing by using just ear plugs or regular muffs in the past.

For what you get the price really can't be beat.

I'm gonna have to check these out. I'm guilty of using regular old muffs, and have been meaning to make the switch. That looks excellent for the price.

    What's battery life like?

ETA: AND I CAN CONNECT MY MP3 PLAYER???? SOLD!

AND THEY TAKE AAAs??? I'm gonna go get a pair tomorrow.

I bought a cheap pair of Caldwells at Dicks (if I remember under $40). Work great and comfortable. Several friends have bought them after trying mine.

Howard Leight "Quiet Band". QB2. (Google it, I can't get a link to work.)

    Cheap and simple.

I've been using these for a long time. Comfortable ,and work well.

NRR of 25. (Noise Reduction Rating)

Don't get in the way when shouldering rifles or shotguns.

I've worn them all day shooting, and all day running big and small chainsaws.

Work great. Kill the noise, but you can still hear someone talking to ya.

I still use regular old muffs. I tried a pair of the electronic ones, and hated the fact that the foam on the inside touched my ears. It also sounded like everybody on the range was standing right behind me.

    Ditto,

They do the job and it's nice to be able to hear others, They even block out the sound of a bolt going home and chambering a round before the first shot. A Buddy of mine has a pair of the high dollar ones, But I haven't had a chance to try them yet to see a difference. But so far the cheap ones work just fine for me.

Howard Leights are nice, I have a pair, but I want a pair of the Sordin Supreme Pro-X's, the HL's have been iffy lately in some of the rainy weather I am shooting in.
Jeff Cooper was a huge supporter of gun games, when he was winning them at least...
