Varget for a Garand?
Does anybody use Varget reloads for an M1 Garand? CPM's website has been down for days, but a few weeks ago I saw on their reloading section that some members had good luck with Varget.
Most consider IMR 4895 as ideal, but I keep Varget on hand for the 223 & 308, so I'd like to use it for the Garand, too. The consensus is to use no powder faster than 4895 & to reduce the loads by 1-2 grains for the Garand. Unless I'm looking at the powder burn rate charts wrong, Varget is slower than 4895. I've been thinking 168 SHPBTM & 46 grains of Varget."It's hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."

Re: Varget for a Garand?
The Hornady book, 7 Ed. has Varget as one of seven powders(propellants) listed.

Speer #14 also lists loads for .30-06 using Varget, however its not noted as suitable for a gas-operated semi-auto.

Re: Varget for a Garand?
Have been using 48 grs. of varget behind 150 gr. ball for my M1's since it first came out , no ill effects . 4064 also works great .
