mine, Mod 29, pinned and recessed:

just as a note, the "44mag" Eastwood made his "feel lucky" speech about was actually a 41 Mag, they didn't currently make the model 29 in 44 mag in that barrel length...but nobody noticed

This picture is a few years old, but the only real good one I have. Its a Ruger SRH in .44 magnum with a Bushnell scope. I recently changed the stock grips to a set of Hogue grips.

My first and only .44. I like it a lot, bought it off the forum here. The sights need tweaking as it shoots pretty low but it serves it's purpose on my nightstand. It's manufactured in '82 I believe but looks great. Heck, it's older than I am!

*photo is sellers photo, I don't have a digicam.*

Is mine pinned and recessed? I asked TonyF a few months back about what that means. He said pinned is how the barrel is attached to the frame...I think. I tried looking up his post but couldn't find it off hand. Can anyone tell?

most revolver barrels are simply threaded in in a crush fit...they time the threads and barrel shoulder to be torqued on properly when its aligned.

"pinned " means the barrel is threaded in, then they pin the barrel in place through the frame/threads to make sure there is no movement possible even with heavy loads

"recessed' means that the cylinder was countersunk at the case rim area to make the rim of the cartridge flush with the rear of the cylinder whan loaded, ostensibly for better fitting, and to prevent casehead rupture.

    example pics:

SW forums and the link above said both processes were stopped in 1982
