Default Why won't my Henry Survival Rifle work?

I got a Henry Survival Rifle on a trade a while back and decided to try shooting it after it sitting unused since I obtained it on a trade. It was used.

I took it to the range tonight and tried to fire some Federal Bulk through it and was a no go. Light primer strikes (VERY light).

I disassembled the gun (as far as I could anyway) and didn't notice anything off inside.

    Any ideas?

And while I'm on it, what is with people selling broken guns to stores instead of getting them fixed? I don't have very nice words for these types of people.

I had one and got rid of it for light strikes and jams. This was a long time ago before I was on the web. Since then I've read that they need a lot of hotter ammo to break them in and smooth them out. True or not? Don't know. Try it and find out. Then let me know because I always liked the concept for 'packing and camping. Wouldn't mind having another if all it took was hotter ammo.

River Pirate, if you want it for 100$, it is yours.

I just disassembled it again and reversed the hammer spring (it is now installed backward). Next week I will give it a go and see how I do.

I also cleaned out an excessive amount of lubricant while I was inside. The machining on the inside of the receiver is quite rough. I'm surprised they let it leave the factory like that.

Henry has the best customer service in the business. Call them and let them know what's going on and they'll get it fixed up on their dime.

If you don't want to go to the trouble and if River Pirate doesn't want it, I'll definitely take it off your hands for $100.

This didn't start out as a selling thread as I don't think it is responsible to sell non functioning firearms, but PM me if you are serious. My initial intentions were to test it to sell it. But it not working means I can't in all good conscience sell it unless the buyer knew that it didn't necessarily fire.

I wrote Henry asking for advice on what the problem may be and for prices on the firing pin and hammer spring. Those seem like the logical first places to look. I am plenty capable of disassembling the rifle myself and prefer to do the work myself...even if it means it costs a few dollars more.

I doub't seriously Henry will cover it if they don't install the new parts. If you bought it from a reputable dealer, they should have checked it out before they sold it. I'm not a big fan of Gander Mountain but if you bought it there they would fix it or make it right.

Just email Henry. They are absolutely fantastic about stuff like this. Their lifetime warranty truly is lifetime. I sent back my Henry rifle for some jamming problems, and they sent it back with a brand new stock! (My stock was damaged by someone else's flying brass )

I did email Henry. They offered to have me ship it back at their expense. I think I'd be a fool not to.
