Default Questions to other Mosin Nagant Owner..

I took my M44 out to range to pop few round today.
While shot as impressive as always with huge ball of fire, and manly roar, i've experienced an issue for the first time.
Everytime I fired gun, magazine plate flew open spitting unfired around everywhere. if I had any round in mag(1,2,3,or 4), it flew open.
If I only had one round in chamber, on empty mag, it stayed shut.

    What you guys think?

I have 3, and do not have that problem at all. I assume the more shells are putting stress on the base. Check if the magazine is all installed correctly, if it is check if the clip that attaches the base to the rest is weak or broken.

the mag catch is a flat spring, check that it is installed correctly first, and you could prob "tweak" it a little to get some more pressure on it if need be.

I took the magazine plate retaining spring off, and bent it little bit. I think its fixed now. As i can't even remove it with my finger now. So we'll see at range in few days

Could have also been a gob of dried Cosmoline in there that came out when you took it apart. This happens quite often.

i thought of that. But I cleaned it THROUGHLY when I got it. I used 2 cans of gunblast just on this gun.

It is hastly made gun during the great war to protect motherland. I suspect few inspections were not so tightly controled...
