my first "encounter" (a pleasant one)
Backstory:
A washing machine mishap caused a major flood in our basement. The insurance company sent out a property damage specialist to inspect the damage. The gentleman was personable, courteous and extremely professional.
It was all business until...
"Hey, I see you have 50cal ammo cans. Are you a shooter?"
My first thought when he said this was, hey a normal person!
And then we did what gun owners like to do best; talk guns Of course I told him about this forum but he was already very familiar. He also served our country in the army and marines. That makes you more than ok in my book.
The happy ending;
very minimal water damage in my basement
my ammo is all safe and dry (I put it in one gallon baggies before putting it in the ammo cans)
we're probably going to meet up for a range shoot
Sometimes your day takes an interesting twist

Sweet!
However, the country is in a pathetic state when meeting a normal, educated, intelligent person is a refreshing and unexcpected event. D:Junior

Nice encounter, hope we all can run into more people that are firearm positive or at least willing to consider they aren't evil... keep spreading the word and building friendships.
I just get annoyed by the anti's always act like firearms owners and activists are the uneducated and unintelligent yet they do not know their facts or can't do more then resort to screaming "save the children"... sorry Sat AM rant lol.

Not a rant at all, I agree wholeheartedly.
Sadly the media shapes our views on many things. I speak from experience since I had very little exposure to firearms growing up. At my previous home I saw that several of my neighbors were firearms enthusiasts. They mentored me by answering all of my (sometimes silly) questions and dispelled many of the myths. They also taught me that despite what the media tells us, gun folk are good folk for the most part. Certainly among the most law abiding citizens I've come across.

Great experience!
I don't have ANY gun stuff around when contractors come to my house. Just in case they send out a douchebag, I don't want them to know and then think they can rob me. They would be unsuccessful if they tried, but still.
So I had my bugman out a few weeks ago. After he was done dealing with my stink bugs, I asked him about how to get rid of some animals F'ing with my property. He told me to shoot them. He said, "You got good aim, right? Shoot them. Just don't bother your neighbors." Conversation was about 5 minutes and was mostly focoused on me shooting most of my problems and trapping a few others outside. NOTE: I'm not sure everything he told me was legal, I think he was being practical based on where I live.
I was wondering where he came up with this. A couple days later I realized there were a few hundred un-policed pieces of .22 and 9mm brass spilling out of my garage. Oops!
