Squaring up Crosshairs to Gun's Receiver
I was setting up my 7615 last night with a scope, and I got everything installed, squared up the crosshairs free hand and now the scope looks canted a little bit when I aim the rifle. I have a level kit, but there is NO flat surface to put the level on the receiver like you can do to a bolt gun. So, are there any tricks to the trade to make sure the horizontal x-hair is perpendicular to the reciver? Or do you guys just "wing it".

My Remy 700 was off bit when I bought it (used) I just eyeballed it as close as I could to perpendicular and went from there...seems to be ok now!

Re: Squaring up Crosshairs to Gun's Receiver
Not a very scientific approach, but here's how I do it;
While I'm adjusting the scope position for eye relief I also take aim at something that I feel is a good horizontal or vertical plane for reference, such as a door or window frame, or maybe the edge of a building or a roof line or something of that nature. I'll align the appropriate crosshair to the plane while standing, sitting, leaning, and whatever other shooting position is handy. When I feel that I have it square to the reference plane while I'm holding the gun as I would when I'm actually shooting it, I tighten the screws and then double check to make sure it's still square.

get one of the small-ish line levels and place it on the base so you can get the rifle level in the gun cradle. Then when you mount the scope in the rings, place the line level on the vertical turret. Make sure you don't disturb the rifle in the cradle as you level the scope in the rings.

Re: Squaring up Crosshairs to Gun's Receiver
I was afraid someone was going to say lay the level on the base. Problem is, I like to use the see thru rings that attach right to the receiver. I've used these very successfully on my other 760 / 7600 's and like them. I guess I'll try to eyeball it with a leveled targed on the wall. Thanks for the tips.

I think that should work. Get sighted on your target (I actually meant to level at target at the range, but you can do it indoors with fine lines or even a long string with a weight). Pull the scope out and level across the lower half of the ring. Lock the gun in tight somehow and then put the scope in and align it with your target/string or other plane that you know is true.

place the level om the table, make sure its level, place a square on the table and square up through the buttstock screws, then level the top turret.
