    Question Barrel conditioning

I just read in the Reading Eagle about conditioning a new barrel on a rifle before sighting in. It's supposed to remove the leftover metal shavings from cutting the lands and grooves. Is there a need to do this with a new pistol? If so, what's the procedure?

I always lap & hone my rifle/pistol barrels with Flitz Polishing Compound. I take an oversized patch and apply a little compound to it and pull the wad back and forth in the barrel. Carefully avoiding the chamber, throat and crown of the barrel... About 20-50 strokes back & forth will polish things right up, removing any scoring or leftover crap. Word to the wise though, dont go too crazy because you can polish down the the lands and groves.

This is what most of us NEF/H&R guys have been doing for years on the Green Mountain barrels that they use. All my NEF and H&R rifles are sub-MOA shooter that dont need much of a break-in after the honing.

What you will find some folks do is clean the bore , fire 5 to 10 shots clean the bore , repeat , alot of folks have a number of rds they think is best and how many times to apply it , etc
