    Thumbs down Wings

I don't get out much, and had a chance to get out with a few friends tonight and eat some wings. I have been out of the burgh for a while and still miss "wing nights" at the local bars there. I did have some great wings tonight at Bufallo Wild Wings. The hotter the better. Their Wild flavor are pretty spicy and tasty to boot. BUT....18 wings was about 12.00. I used to hit some real shitholes in Pittsburgh that had 10 cent wing nights. AND for the ten cents, you got a WHOLE wing, so both pieces. The Royal Lounge in the south hills had some good ones. You could get the equivalent of thirty wings at Quaker Steak and Lube or Buffalo Wild WIngs for 1.50. WTF????????

Cheap wings can still be found, but ya gotta hunt around a little. Most chains (like BW3) don't have deals like smaller independent bars do.

As an aside, I was up in Erie a couple times this summer and the wings @ Quaker Steak up there were nowhere near as good as the ones at the main store in Sharon... go figure.

I agree about the Lube wings sucking pretty bad in Erie. THe Sharon joint used to be a good road trip. They got too big for their own good. Sauce in bottles, etc. The Lube was cool when it was the Lube.

I don't bother with Quaker of BW3s anymore.

    Elis (26th and cascade)
    about 75 flavors
    Monday 35 cent wings
Weds Yuengs and Wings ($10 for 20 wings and a pitcher)
    - they are huge, 15 is stuffing yourself. They also have

Dock Holidays (state street exit right by 90)
Weds and Thurs 30? cent wings $2 bottles of bud or coors
    - decent size, 15ish flavors, they have one realllly hot one

Country Tavern (right by the new casino)
Weds 30? cent wings, drinks unknown
    - fairly big, 15ish flavors

    Avonia Tavern
    No specials I know about
-decent size, really really crispy, 15ish flavors

There's about 4-5 other places my friends swear by but I haven't been there. Calamaris and Plymouth supposedly have good wings, never tried them though. Can't really think of any other places.

In high school every monday night was wing night...big, cheap wings at small sports bars are always the best...all the wings at the big chains come from anorexic birds.

The Avonia has some damn good wings, but still not super cheap like in the Burgh. The Country Tavern wings are also pretty damn good. Don't get me wrong, I am not griping over two dollars, but just making an observation.

It is certainly less than a dive, but the Caribean Crushers at Fat Heads are really good. I could go for a dozen now along side an Artery Clogger sandwich. MMMMMMM two eggs, bacon, etc.....
