    Default Where can I carry?

    Hello all,

First, let me say I'm an Import. Came to Pittsburgh to get a Master's degree at Pitt/GSPIA.

I've got a Texas CHL, and Reciprocity. What I'd like to know is, where in this fine city may I and may I not carry my weapon? To the best of my current knowledge, I can't carry in elementary or secondary schools, the Airport, while drinking, and inside University buildings.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You can carry in the unsecured areas of an airport.

The law about schools has a clause that states you can carry "for other lawful purposes".......however, there has been no court decisions stating carrying on a license is a "lawful purpose"..........but there has been no decision that its not either. As I have said before, if its not a "lawful purpose".......then what is it? Unlawful??? Has to be one or the other. Can't see the courts saying carrying with a LTC is an unlawful purpose. How would that go over???

    No restriction on drinking either.

There is no restiction for carrying in a state or city building either. I can walk into city hall while carrying.

United States on active duty, shall carry any weapon, firearm, explosive or inflammable material on the airport premises

That's an Allegheny County ordinance? Then it's an invalid/illegal ordinance...only the state legislature can pass laws pertaining to firearms.

As Steve pointed out, no law against carrying in town/city buildings. Schools have the "lawful purpose" exception and as for universities, they may have their own "rules, but it's not "illegal".

Best thing to do is read the two "stickies" at the top of this: http://www.pafoa.org/forum/concealed-open-carry-121/
    forum.

    Oh yeah, WELCOME!

True.... It's preempted by § 6120. of the UFA:

§ 6120. Limitation on the regulation of firearms and
    ammunition.
    (a) General rule.--No county, municipality or township may
in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession,
transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition
components when carried or transported for purposes not
prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.

the city of pittsburgh has an AWB on the books, too. but that is also null and void because of state preemption.

another technicality...it is actually *legal* for you to carry in university buildings, but they would probably kick you out of school for it. in other words, i'm sure it's against uiniversity policy, but it's not against the law...not that the prospect of getting kicked out of school is not enough incentive not to do it.

    welcome to pittsburgh and pafoa!

    Here's a little ditty I wrote...

If Doctor Seuss had a Pa LTCF...

You can carry in a house,
    you carry with a mouse.
You can carry in a car,
    and even in a bar.
You can't carry in the court,
but you can around the port.
    You can carry eating supper,
you can carry an AR upper.
You can't carry in the school,
but you can carry playing pool.
You can carry more than one gun,
you can carry while you run.
You can carry with your brother,
you can carry a real big mother.
You can carry in a boat,
you can carry with a goat.
You can carry hollow point ammo,
    you can carry wearing camo.
You can carry it under a shirt,
you can carry till it hurts.
    You can carry it unconcealed,
you can carry in a hayfield.
You can carry in a tree.
it's good to carry you will see!
