Old revolver question
In a recent TV show, they refer to the Remington 1875 Army revolver as "The Outlaw." In nearly 40 years of reading about guns and shooting them, I've never seen or heard the 1875 being called the Outlaw. Poking around a bit, I find that some repros are being called the Outlaw.
Anyone know if that was a name applied to the gun waaaay back when or if it is a new thing to market it for Cowboy Shooting?
Just doesn't make sense for a company in the 1800s to market a gun and call it "The Outlaw." Kinda like Kel-Tec calling one of theirs "The Gangbanger" with companion model "Skank Ho."
Thanks.

Re: Old revolver question
Yeah, I never heard it called that either.
Frank James supposely favored the 1875 Remington and He was an Outlaw prior to going straight.
Sounds like a modern day marketing gimmick.

Re: Old revolver question
The name "outlaw" wasn't used in the day, but there were many trade names in use like: "Knuckleduster" (for combo gun/brass knuckle), "Dicatator", "Swamp Angel", "Bulldog" and the like. Standard Catalog of Firearms lists these names for many small, mostly forgotten revolver makers.
