Shooting Pool (yes, it's gun related!)
ETA: Just in case you don't realize it, this is a video. Click on the picture to get it started.
Today several members in our family had a unique target of opportunity at which we could aim our guns. The family swimming pool had rusted out, and we needed to drain it to haul it off to the scrap yard. We live on a hill, and while the pool is completely exposed on the downhill side, it is completely entrenched on the uphill side. Not only that, the hill continues to rise significantly before it gets to the road. So I had an idea...
Instead of just putting a hose into the pool and siphoning it off slowly and in a very boring way, why not let the water out in a way that would be fun and exciting? I had the guns, I had the ammo, I had the backstop, and I had willing participants. So, when the family gathered for my birthday celebration today, four of us took up arms against our pool, while everyone else sat and watched, or filmed, depending on the choices they made.
This was not an exercise in marksmanship. In fact, I spread out my initial shots so as not to create a blowout too fast. The targets at the bottom were mainly for reference. We kept our shots low to maximize water pressure, and to ensure that no shots left the property. As it was, no shots even reached the other side of the pool wall. This was a lot of fun, and something I suspect I won't get to do again for a long time. Of course, if someone here needs pool draining services, I will be glad to see what I can do for you.Last edited by PennsyPlinker; October 9th, 2010 at 11:14 PM.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

I would not consider this activity in any way "redneckular." What we saw there was precision-ballistic-aqua-demolition. Shooting it is a hell of a lot smarter then going up to it with a drill or sawzall...

Only "redneckish" if that's the way you drain it for the winter.
