Re: "Collet" bushing
I know Colt phased them out because they were prone to breakage, and possibly the cause of some jams. I'm not sure if anyone still makes them.
Try www.brownells.com for a whole bunch of other 1911 bushings.

Re: "Collet" bushing
Yes, Colt phased out the collet bushings. But they were used if my memory is right from 1971 when the '70 series came out and were phased out in 1988. So they were used for 17 years if collet bushing were prone to breakage it took Colt a lot of year to figure that out.

Re: "Collet" bushing
yes, they are prone to breakage, but they give a nice tight lockup for target and competition.
mine broke right in the middle of a bowling pin match, locked my gun up tight, so much so, it took the gunsmith there almost half an hour to get it open and apart do I gould get a new bushing in. The one tab went back into the action under the barrel somehow, gun was locked up.
that was also my carry weapon, if I'd been in a defensive situation, i'd be dead for sure.

Re: "Collet" bushing
Agreed Jay I would never use a 1911 with a collet bushing as a carry firearm; I have three 70 Series Gold Cups and all have the collet bushing.
I use all three of these Gold Cups/National Matches I use for informal shooting matchs not. All have fired over 10K rounds without any problems and they still lock up tight.
I figured that it was time I bought some spare bushings in case of breakage as the round count get a little higher.
thanks
